Welcome,
Visitors and Newcomers from the First Parish Brewster Membership Committee We
at First Parish Brewster are delighted to welcome visitors and newcomers to our
worship services. We are a diverse congregation and draw our
spiritual foundations from many backgrounds:
Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, atheist, agnostic, humanist, and others.
All are welcome, regardless of race, religion, sex, sexual orientation,
or ability. Coming
to a new church can be an uncomfortable feeling when you don’t know what to expect. Here is some information about us that we hope
will acquaint you with us and our worship services. Parking Your
first concern will be parking your car. There
is a large lot at the head of the long driveway across the road from the church
(Rt. 6A). Once your car is parked, there is a police
officer who will direct traffic to permit you to cross Rt. 6A safely. Or, if you have need of handicapped parking,
there are designated slots in the small lot just in front of the church. Entering
the Church There
are two ways to enter the Church: through the green front doors, which lead directly
into the sanctuary, or through the Parish Hall door, which is at the end of the
wooden ramp to the right of the front doors.
When you enter through the Parish Hall door, you will find the greeters’
Welcome table. There you can get a name
tag, and sign up to receive our Welcome package and our monthly newsletter. The
Order of Service As
you enter the sanctuary, an usher will provide you with the Order of Service,
and the weekly announcements of meetings and calendar of activities. Looking over the announcements and calendar, you will begin to
get an idea of some of the diverse interests and concerns of our congregation. Children If
you have children and come to the 9:00 AM service, your children will be invited
to the front of the congregation for the front
of the congregation for the family homily portion of the service. You are welcome to accompany them if that makes
them more comfortable. After the homily,
the children are directed to find their teachers by age/grade level groupings,
and are dispersed to their classes. If your child is not comfortable going to a class, or you come
to the 11:00 service, he or she is welcome to stay with you. For children under the age of three, there
is nursery care available on the ground floor of the parish hall. The greeter can direct you there before the
worship service. The
Worship Service Our
worship services usually consist of readings, meditative musical interludes, and
a sermon. Newcomers are welcomed. You may be asked to identify and introduce
yourself if you wish. When the ushers
take up the collection, do not feel obligated to contribute. When you first visit, you are our guest, and
not expected to donate. After
the Service: Coffee, Snacks and Conversation After
the worship service, follow the congregation to the Parish Hall for coffee and
snacks. You will have an opportunity to meet and talk
with other members of First Parish Brewster. Also you may stop at the Welcome table after the service to talk
with the greeters and fill out our newcomers’ information form. Children are returned from their classes to
the Parish Hall during coffee hour. What
To Wear Do
you wonder what to wear to First Parish Brewster?
We are a casually dressed congregation.
Wear whatever is comfortable for you.
